The first project task was to put together a quote based on a budget, which was initially earmarked to extend VMware support. We managed to come up with a very similar figure. It included the purchase of a licence and services required to convert to Hyper-V and implement the System Center package (SCOM, SCCM, SCDPM, SCVMM, SCORCH).
In order to reduce costs associated with maintaining mail infrastructure, we suggested a transfer of the largest user inboxes to Exchange Online. Through this solution, the customer avoided the need to make further purchases associated with additional disk space and gained flexibility provided by a cloud solution.
The customer was incurring significant costs associated with VMware, which serviced key servers with high SLAs – factory production lines. We suggested a migration from VMware to Hyper-V, which generated significant savings for the customer. A fast and efficient migration, transparent to users, was our primary objective.
In conjunction with numerous application performance problems and errors, we conducted an IT infrastructure audit. It was found that root of the problems lies with monitoring, or rather lack of monitoring, which would point to the source of problems and drastically cut down the time needed to diagnose them. We implemented an SCOM based solution to monitor servers, applications and networks and a solution to manage updates (SCCM+Orchestrator).
The first step was to put together a presentation highlighting the benefits of the Active Directory domain with reference to the infrastructure in place and taking plans to expand it into account. This was closely followed by an analysis, which made it possible to design an appropriate structure of objects and organisational units. For the needs of the migration itself, we developed scripts (USMT) for user profiles and data migration to the new domain.
